What painting costs here

Typical ranges for this kind of work. Every cost page breaks the figures down job by job, and your own quote is fixed in writing.

Why Tidy

Three things, and we keep all three

Ask around the Illawarra about painters and the same three complaints come back. These are the answers to them.

01

The price on the page is the price

Every job we do is quoted in writing before anyone opens a tin. The number does not move once work starts.

02

We turn up when we say

A booked start date is a start date. If something changes you hear it from us first, not by waiting at home.

03

We leave it cleaner than we found it

Drop sheets down, edges cut clean, and the site swept before we go. It is in the name.

Prices, openly

We put our prices on the website

Most painters will not give you a number until someone has walked through your house. Ours are here, so you know roughly where you stand before you pick up the phone.

Suburbs

Painting on the coast is a different job

Salt off the water, shade under the escarpment, humidity around the lake — each corner of the Illawarra wears paint differently, and each suburb has its own page.

Questions

The things people ask first

How much does it cost to paint a house in Wollongong?

A three-bedroom interior runs about $4,500 to $9,000, and a single-storey exterior about $5,000 to $12,000. A double-storey exterior is $8,000 to $18,000. Every one of those is broken down on our cost pages, job by job.

What is the best time of year to paint in the Illawarra?

Spring and autumn. Exterior paint needs the surface above about 10°C and dry for long enough to cure, which rules out a wet Illawarra winter week. Interiors can be done any time of year.

How long does it take to paint a house?

A three-bedroom interior takes two painters roughly three to five days. A single-storey exterior is two to four days. Preparation is 40 to 60 percent of that, and more on a house that has been left a while.

Do I need to move out while the house is painted?

Almost never. Interior work is done room by room so you keep the rest of the house. Spray jobs are the exception — an empty house is far quicker to spray than an occupied one.

How many coats of paint do I need?

Two over a properly prepared surface. A third is needed for a strong colour change, going light over dark, or on bare timber, and each extra coat adds roughly 20 to 40 percent to the labour.

What about lead paint in older homes?

Anything built before about 1970 can carry lead paint, and it must not be dry-sanded. Handling it properly adds around $500 to $2,000 to a job, and it is worth knowing before you compare quotes.
